HICKORY, N.C. — Twenty-five student athletes at Catawba Valley Community College have been honored by the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) for their performance in the classroom during the 2023-24 school year.
This past week, the NJCAA released its All-Academic Team honors — a list that includes 25 Red Hawk student athletes.
This is the seventh year in a row that Catawba Valley has boasted 10 or more individual NJCAAA academic honorees.
Student athletes were categorized into three different teams — All-Academic first team (4.0 GPA), All-Academic second team (3.8 to 3.99 GPA) or All-Academic third team (3.6 to 3.79 GPA).
Five Catawba Valley student athletes — baseball players Sam Carpenter, Eli Harpalani, Hunter Polak and Sam Stove and CVCC softball player Annalyse Myers — were named All-Academic First Team for recording a perfect 4.0 grade point average during the 2023-24 school year.
Of the 25 individual Catawba Valley student athletes honored by the NJCAA, 15 are members of the Red Hawks baseball team, including All-Academic Second Team honorees Kylan Bolick, Connor Bradley, J.T. Carter, Bryson Chandler, Will Fowler, Ethan Levy and Ethan Young and All-Academic Third Team members A.J. Ciaccio, Matthew Hall, Zach Martin and Clint Turner.
Annalyse Myers, Abigail Teague, Kameron Bolick and Mayson Lail represented the Catawba Valley softball program on the NJCAA All-Academic list. Myers earned first-team status, Bolick received second-team honors and both Bolick and Lail were named third-team honorees.
Sophomore Rylie Hogg and freshmen Caleeya Duke, Sabrina Lewis, Jayden Lynch and Erianna Scott led the CVCC women's basketball honorees. All five student athletes received third-team accolades.
One Red Hawk men's basketball player — sophomore Evan Presnell — was named NJCAA All-Academic third team.
All 25 of these student athletes also made either the President's or Athletic Director's List at CVCC.
A total of 12,245 student athletes across all NJCAA members colleges were honored with All-Academic honors for achieving a GPA above 3.6.
