HICKORY––A Lenoir man on a mission of mercy survived an airplane crash in Catawba County, Wednesday.
According to a same-day statement from Master Trooper Christopher Casey of the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, at about 12:45 p.m., NCSHP personnel responded to the crash at the Hickory Regional Airport. Casey adds that a single-engine Cessna experienced a mechanical failure, resulting in an emergency landing on the runway. The plane was returning from Avery County after delivering supplies to mountain-area victims of Hurricane Helene’s related floods.
The pilot, Jordan Seth Faught, 41, was not injured.
Casey continues that the highway patrol secured the scene. The Federal Aviation Administration will conduct an investigation.
