Charles Richard Harrelson
January 6, 1939 – February 28, 2026
LINCOLNTON, N.C.—Charles Richard Harrelson, age 87, of Long Shoals Road in Lincolnton, passed away on Saturday, February 28, 2026.
His funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. on Thursday, March 5, 2026, with Pastor Justin Scoggins officiating. Burial will follow in the Pisgah Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. until 2:45 p.m., prior to the service.
Mr. Harrelson was born on January 6, 1939, to the late Lucy Dellinger Harrelson and Emmitt Graydon Harrelson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Everette Harrelson, Ray Harrelson and John Harrelson.
He is survived by his loving family: his wife, Sarah Harrelson of Lincolnton; his daughter, Dawn Ackerman (Mark); his grandchildren, Nikki Burgess (Matt) and Devyn Travis; and his great-grandchildren, Jacob Burgess (Sarah) and Hannah Manley (Josh).
Mr. Harrelson retired from Carolina Freight after more than 25 years of dedicated service. He was a devoted member of his church, where he faithfully worked with the youth and children’s ministries for many years, leaving a lasting impact on countless young lives.
He found great joy in fishing, especially during his cherished annual Thanksgiving fishing trips. An avid baseball fan, he particularly enjoyed attending Cherryville Post 100 games, where he spent many memorable evenings supporting his favorite team.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Pisgah Methodist Church, 2582 Gastonia Highway, Lincolnton, NC 28092.
