Christian Ministry Reflects On Final Months

Williams: year-end assessment and preparing for Christmas

LINCOLNTON––For Christian Ministry of Lincoln County, right now is a time for taking stock.

And according to executive director Mitzi Williams, it means a pause for reflection.

“As we move into the final months of the year, we want to take a moment to reflect on the incredible impact our ministry has had, thanks to your continued generosity and prayers,” Williams said Friday. “Over the past few months, we have been blessed to assist those in need with critical support.”

She added that this includes some $74,000 spent on utilities, rent and medical assistance, thus helping families stay in their homes. And $40,000 has gone toward providing food, helping to ensure that no one in the community goes hungry.

“As we continue to give support to those who have lost food due to power outages and to people moving here from the mountains, we are ramping up efforts to prepare for our annual Christmas giveaway on Dec. 20,” she said.

During last year Christmas-related efforts, the ministry served 580 families and 570 children.

And angels for angel trees will be ready by Oct. 25. Call Mimi Rhyne (see the telephone number below), and let her know how many children you can help.

The ministry is scheduling groups to help sort food donations, Dec. 2-13. This can be during operating hours or after. Call Rhyne and get your group on the schedule.

“It doesn’t matter what size group you have,” said Williams. “Every hand helps!”

Also, the ministry is collecting used toys. The annual used toy giveaway is Dec. 7. Donations may be dropped off Monday-Friday, 9 a.m.-1 p.m.

“Thank you for supporting the ministry and the people who depend on it,” Williams added. “Your donations are making a tangible difference in the lives of many. Please keep our clients, volunteers and staff in your prayers.”

How you can help

With the help of its member churches, local businesses, social groups and individual supporters, Christian Ministry seeks to meet the needs of those who are less fortunate through its emergency services, soup kitchen, annual Christmas campaign, nursing home program and, for local elderly and shut-in residents, the delivery of LINC Home Meals.
