Cornelius Man Dies In Sunday Collision
James Patrick Sheehan, 76, not wearing seatbelt
STATESVILLE––A Cornelius man died in a Sunday morning collision in Iredell County.
According to Master Trooper Christopher Casey of the North Carolina State Highway Patrol in a Sunday statement, NCSHP personnel responded at about 9:20 a.m. to investigate the incident on Old Mountain Road at Rumple Hill Drive. The driver of a 2019 Chevrolet “Blazer,” travelling south on Old Mountain Road, attempted to turn left on to Rumple Hill Drive and turned in front of a northbound 2002 Ford “Econoline” van.
The Chevy’s driver, James Patrick Sheehan, 76, succumbed to his injuries at the scene. He was not restrained by a seatbelt. The Ford’s driver, Leonard Clarence Hagler, 69, of Statesville, was treated at the scene for minor injuries, as Casey informs.
“The initial investigation does not indicate impairment or speed to be contributing factors,” he adds. “During the on-scene investigation, the roadway was closed in the area for approximately three hours. No charges will be filed in this case.”
