Dr. Shirley R. Lynn
February 10, 1943 - October 20, 2026
DENVER, N.C.—Dr. Shirley R. Lynn, age 83, of North Little Egypt Road in Denver, North Carolina, went to be with her Lord Jesus on Tuesday, October 20, 2026.
Dr. Lynn was born February 10, 1943, in Lincoln County, North Carolina, daughter of the late Lawrence L. and Agnes E. Lynch Rumfelt.
Dr. Lynn was a woman of many talents and accomplishments, serving her community in a variety of professional roles throughout her life. She worked as a florist, paralegal, and business owner, demonstrating a strong work ethic, entrepreneurial spirit, and dedication to serving others. Among her most meaningful accomplishments was founding New Hope Baptist Church, establishing a place of faith, fellowship, and worship for the community. Her diverse contributions and lasting impact will be remembered by all who knew her. Shirley was a devout believer and follower of Jesus. She loved her family, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. The New Hope Baptist Church family was dear to her every day.
Dr. Lynn is survived by her children, William Slaughter (Tonda), David Slaughter (Tammy), Tammy Wingo, and Scott Slaughter (Lori); grandchildren, Beth Earnhardt (Rick), Michael Slaughter, Nicole Slaughter, Brooke Dellinger (Garrett), Matt Roseman, Aaron Slaughter, Hannah Richardson (Will), Andrew Slaughter (Sherry), Seth Slaughter (Skylar), and Abigail Powell; and 17 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Dr. Lynn was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. William R. “Bob” Lynn.
The funeral service for Dr. Lynn will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, October 23, 2026, at New Hope Baptist Church in Denver, with Pastor Dennis Benton officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Lincolnton. The family will receive friends from 12 noon until 12:45 p.m. Friday at the church prior to the service.
