LINCOLNTON, N.C. — Early voting is underway for the November 3 general election and the latest numbers reveal an interesting political divide. Registered Republicans are leading early voting turnout across Lincoln County while registered Democrats hold a narrow advantage among voters casting ballots in the City of Lincolnton election.

According to the Lincoln County Board of Elections' unofficial early voting report through Wednesday, October 21, a total of 9,408 ballots have been cast across the county's three early voting locations.

Registered Republicans account for 3,770 ballots compared to 2,542 cast by registered Democrats. Another 3,080 ballots were cast by unaffiliated voters along with 15 Libertarians and one Green Party voter.

That gives registered Republicans a lead of 1,228 ballots over registered Democrats in early voting countywide.

A Different Picture in the City of Lincolnton

While Republicans lead across Lincoln County, the numbers tell a different story among voters casting ballots in the City of Lincolnton election.

Of the 844 city ballots recorded, 333 were cast by registered Democrats compared to 271 by registered Republicans. Another 236 came from unaffiliated voters along with four ballots from voters registered with other parties.

That gives registered Democrats a 62-ballot advantage over registered Republicans among city voters who have participated in early voting.

The difference is particularly interesting considering Lincoln County's traditionally strong Republican registration advantage.

Unaffiliated Voters Could Be a Deciding Factor

One of the most significant figures in the countywide report is the 3,080 unaffiliated voters who have already participated.

Unaffiliated voters account for nearly one-third of early voting turnout, making them an important group in determining how local and statewide races ultimately unfold.

However, it is important to remember that early voting statistics reflect voters' political registration and not necessarily which candidates received their votes. Republicans can vote for Democrats and Democrats can vote for Republicans while unaffiliated voters may support either party.

Early Voting Locations See Thousands of Voters

The East Site has recorded the highest participation with 5,049 ballots followed by the Board of Elections location with 3,219 and the West Site with 1,140.

October 19 was the busiest reported day so far with 2,069 ballots cast countywide.

Although registered Republicans currently maintain a substantial early voting turnout advantage countywide, the final outcome remains uncertain. Thousands of residents still have an opportunity to vote before Election Day.

Early voting continues through Saturday, October 31 with Election Day scheduled for Tuesday, November 3.

What Do These Numbers Really Tell Us?

The early voting figures demonstrate that registered Republicans are turning out in greater numbers countywide while registered Democrats have a slight advantage among Lincolnton city voters.

Whether those trends continue could become an important factor in determining the results of several closely watched races.

These figures represent unofficial early voting participation through October 21 and do not indicate which candidates are receiving votes.

With more than 9,400 ballots already cast, Lincoln County voters are making their voices heard. But the final decision will not come until the votes are counted.
