Fatal Collision On I-77 In Iredell County
Arthur Godfrey Beland, 61, of Yadkinville is dead
MOORESVILLE––A Yadkinville man is dead, following a Monday afternoon collision in Iredell County.
According to Master Trooper Christopher Casey of the North Carolina State Highway Patrol in a same-day statement, at approximately 3:10 p.m., NCSHP personnel responded to and investigated the fatal collision on I-77 North, near mile-marker 32. A 2013 Nissan “Altima,” travelling north on I-77, lost control, struck the median barrier wall and came to rest facing south. The driver then travelled south in the toll lane to attempt to turn around and was struck by a 2021 KTM motorcycle that was travelling north in the toll lane. After the initial impact, the motorcycle collided with a northbound 2016 Nissan “Sentra,” as Casey informs.
The driver of the motorcycle, Arthur Godfrey Beland Jr., 61, was ejected and succumbed to his injuries at the scene. The driver of the Altima, Kathleen Williams, 67, of Charlotte, and a passenger sustained minor injuries and were transported by EMS to an area hospital. The driver of the Sentra was not injured, as Casey states.
“The initial investigation indicates speed and impairment were not contributing factors in the collision,” he adds. “During the on-scene investigation, the roadway was partially closed in the area for approximately two hours. Upon completion of the ongoing investigation and consultation with the Iredell County District Attorney’s Office, charges are pending.”
