Fatal Collision Wednesday In Wilkes County
Kayla Mae Combs, 27, is dead; not wearing seatbelt
ROARING RIVER––An Elkin woman is dead, following a collision in Wilkes County, Wednesday morning.
According to Master Trooper Christopher Casey of the North Carolina State Highway Patrol in a Wednesday afternoon statement, at about 9:40 a.m., NCSHP personnel responded to and investigated the incident on Greenhorn Road near North Lomax Road.
“A 2005 Chevrolet ‘Impala’ was travelling west on Greenhorn Road,” Casey states, “when the driver lost control, crossed the center line, drove off the left side of the road and struck a tree.”
He adds that the driver, Kayla Mae Combs, 27, succumbed to her injuries at the scene. Combs was not restrained by a seatbelt.
“The initial investigation indicates excessive speed for the conditions to be the contributing circumstance in the collision,” Casey concludes. “During the on-scene investigation, Greenhorn Road was closed in the area for approximately one hour.”
