Obituary
Franklin Lonnie Smith, 88, passed away on Tuesday, July 9, 2024 at his residence.
He was born August 2, 1935 in Iredell County to the late Dim and Vivian Wellmann Smith. Lonnie was a United States Air Force veteran and retired from GE as a tow motor driver.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Carson Smith; and brother, Dondi Smith.
Those left to cherish his memory are his sons Tony Long of Statesville, Gary Carson and wife Sandra of Statesville; daughters Lon-Yetta Smith of Statesville, Kristi Smith of Statesville; grandchildren Dimia Sherae Smith of Hickory, Sparkle Deon Long of Statesville; and great-grandchild Heiress Finesse Smith of Hickory.
A gathering of family and friends to celebrate Lonnie’s life was held on Saturday, July 13, 2024 from 10-11 a.m. at Bennett Funeral Service, 7878 NC Hwy 16, Newton.
