The Gaston County Police Department had a successful ending to a stand-off on Friday.

According to a Tuesday statement from the GCPD, on Sept. 6, GCPD officers responded to the 600 block of Castlewood Drive in southern Gaston County in connection with a report of two people breaking into a home. Officers arrived at the residence and found two people inside.

Officers were able to quickly take one of the suspects, Kelly Lynn Hooker, into custody without incident. A second suspect, who was identified as Calvin Kizmere White, refused to come out. Officers discovered White had outstanding warrants for breaking and entering, assault with a deadly weapon and a probation violation. It was also believed White was armed with a gun. White continued to refuse to come out of the home and barricaded himself inside.

The Gaston County Police Drone Unit responded to assist. The drone unit was able to locate White inside the home as he attempted to hide in the attic. Due to White’s extensive criminal history, his refusal to surrender and the threat of a gun, the GCPD Emergency Response Team (or ERT) was requested to help take White into custody. After numerous requests for White to surrender, ERT members entered the home to arrest White.

The ERT members discovered White had made his way through the ductwork of the home and was now concealing himself in the crawlspace area. ERT members used a police dog to search the crawlspace area. The canine was able to find and apprehend White, allowing officers to take him safely into custody.

Hooker was charged with breaking and entering. White was charged with breaking and entering; resisting, delaying and obstructing law-enforcement personnel; and assault on a law-enforcement animal. White was booked into the Gaston County Jail and issued a $25,000 secured bond.
