In a Tuesday release, NCSHP Master Trooper Christopher Casey elaborates on an Aug. 30 incident that occurred in Ashe County. That Friday at about 3:10 p.m., highway patrol personnel responded to and investigated a fatal crash on Clint Gilley Road at Heavenly Mountain View. A 1965 Chevrolet truck, loaded with gravel and backing down Heavenly Mountain View, drove off the right side of the road, went down an embankment, overturned and came to rest on its top on Clint Gilley Road, as Casey recapitulates.

“The driver of the Chevrolet, John Charles Shoemake of Warrensville, succumbed to his injuries at the scene,” he adds. “Shoemake was not restrained by a seatbelt, due to the vehicle not being equipped with seatbelts.”

Casey continues that the preliminary investigation indicates speed and alcohol were not contributing factors in the collision. During the on-scene investigation, the roadway was closed in the area for about two hours.
