Nancy Payseur Burgin, age 91, passed away on Monday, November 4, 2024.

Nancy was loved dearly by her children, grandchildren, siblings, nieces, nephews and countless friends.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, November 8, 2024, at Lander’s Chapel United Methodist Church in Lincolnton, N.C., with Reverend Carrie Carpenter officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Thursday, November 7, 2024, at Warlick Funeral Home in Lincolnton, N.C.

Nancy was born August 26, 1933, in Lincoln County to the late William Burton “W. B.” Payseur and Mary Warlick Payseur. She was preceded in death by her son, Michael Burgin, and her husband, George Burgin. She was also preceded in death by four brothers, Robert “Bob” Payseur, Rev. Marshall Weaver, Craig Weaver, William Burton Payseur Jr., and sister, Mary “Pris” Weaver Mauney.

Nancy is survived by her son, William “Bill” Burgin and wife Julie of Denver, N.C.; daughter, Diane Burgin Homesley and husband Hal of Waleska, Ga.; three grandchildren, James “Jamey” Homesley (Taylor Rae), Jessica Homesley King (Lexi) and Jacob “Jay” Burgin. Nancy is also survived by her sister, Shirley Fawcett; brother, Jerry Payseur; and sister-in-law, Pauline Payseur.

On December 30, 1951, Nancy married George, the love of her life. They lived in Lincolnton, Cherryville, Burlington, Charlotte, Marietta, Winston-Salem, and Holden Beach. Nancy was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Their home was always the gathering spot for her children and their friends. She dearly loved her grandchildren and cherished her time with them at her beloved Holden Beach home. Nancy was a legendary cook and extraordinary hostess, opening her home to friends, family, and neighbors, always with a delicious home-cooked meal, freshly made dessert, and cup of coffee. She was renowned for her pound cakes and chocolate eclairs made for family gatherings, and delivered to church dinners, welcoming new neighbors, giving comfort to anyone going through difficult times, and even to her mechanic, doctor, and mail person.

Nancy was an elder in the Presbyterian Church, a Trustee of the Holden Beach Chapel, and held many leadership positions in her church and the community. She was a talented oil painter with family home places as her favorite subject. She enjoyed public speaking and was a real estate investor.
