Nancy Speagle Wright
April 1, 1941 - September 22, 2024
VALE, N.C. - After 83 years of love and devotion Nancy Speagle Wright of Vale left this world surrounded by her loving family to join her heavenly Father on Sunday, September 22, 2024 in the comfort of her home.
Born April 1, 1941 in Lincoln County, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Mildred Speagle. Nancy was also preceded in death by two brothers, Richard and Robert Speagle.
Nancy was a longtime member of Plateau Church in Vale. Before her retirement, she was self-employed running a day care for over 40 years caring for hundreds of young children where she shared her Christlike faith and Christian example with the children she loved.
Nancy was known for having the gift of being artistic, making crafts, and a wonderful cook. Because of her great love for Christmas and the Holiday season, she made it special for all her family and friends with her handmade gifts and home cooking. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who was the heart of our family and always there when we needed her most, offering abundant support, wisdom and love. She was a friend to many and a cherished member of the community.
Nancy is survived by her sweetheart and husband of 65 years, Horace “Hatley” Wright Jr.; one daughter, Jaimie Cansler and husband David; one son, Chris Wright and wife Robin; three sisters Gayle Willis, Jo Alice (Jim) Smith, and Lorie (Dean) Yancey; one brother Ernest (Debbie) Speagle; four grandchildren Jordan and Joseph Cansler, Bethany Richardson and husband Zachary, Caleb Wright and wife Vicky; nine great-grandchildren Charli, Essie, and Darci Richardson, Wyatt and Twyla Cansler, Quinlan, Gracie, Iris and soon to be baby boy Wright; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family received friends on Saturday, September 28, 2024 from 10-11 a.m. at Plateau Community Church, 3315 Scronce Rd., Vale, NC 28168.
A Celebration of Life service followed at 11 a.m. with the Rev. William Gerhardt officiating.
