Roger Dale Walker

Roger Dale Walker, 71, of Lincolnton, NC, passed away peacefully on April 12, 2025. A devoted husband, loving father, proud Popaw, and faithful servant, Roger leaves behind a legacy of hard work, kindness, and a heart for others. He was born June 16, 1953 in Lincoln County and was the son of the late Elvin and the late Pearl Byrd Hill. He was preceded in death by his parents and his three brothers, Edward, Jimmy, and Danny Walker; and his sister, Linda Sue Walker. Roger also held a special place in his heart for the LV and Bonnie Finger family, who welcomed him into their home at the age of 12 and treated him as their own. Their love and support shaped him deeply, and they remained dear to him throughout his life.
He is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Malia Walker, with whom he shared a life filled with love, laughter, and devotion. Together, they built a beautiful family, including two sons, Chris Walker of Newton, NC, and Jamie Walker (Jennifer) of Lincolnton, NC; and two daughters, Kelsey Leirmoe (Malcolm) of Rock Hill, SC, and Kendall Taylor (Cory) of Maiden, NC. Roger was the cherished Popaw to seven grandchildren who brought endless joy to his life: granddaughters Allie Powers, Khloe Taylor, Addie Leirmoe, Abernathy “AJ” Leirmoe, and Walker Leirmoe; and grandsons John Austin Ward and Grant Ward.
Roger dedicated over 30 years to the textile industry before branching out on his own to start a successful painting and pressure washing business, which he ran for 12 years. Later, he launched a cabinet finishing business before finishing his working years as a maintenance officer with the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office. No matter the job, Roger took pride in doing things right and giving his best.
A simple man who found joy in life’s quiet moments, Roger loved hunting, the outdoors, sharing meals with his wife, and spending time with his grandchildren. His love for the Lord was unshakable, and he was baptized alongside his daughter Kendall in 1995 at Boger City Baptist Church—one of the proudest moments of his life.
Roger had a servant’s heart and never hesitated to lend a hand. Whether it was going on mission trips, cooking for the Men’s Retreat, helping his family, or simply being there when someone needed him, he was always ready to give. And if you ever had his famous chicken and dumplings, you know just how much love he put into everything he did.
Roger Dale Walker will be deeply missed, but the love he poured into his family, friends, and community will live on for generations.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday, April 15, 2025 at 12:00 PM at Boger City Baptist Church in Lincolnton with Pastor Bill Bingham and Paster Charles Ingram officiating.
The family will receive friends prior to the service from 10:00 AM – 11:45 AM at the church.
Memorials may be made to: Boger City Baptist Church - 2201 E Main St. - Lincolnton, NC 28092
