Saturday Vehicle Crash Kills One
Deane Campbell Griffin of Lincolnton is dead
LINCOLNTON––A weekend vehicular accident resulted in the death of a Lincolnton woman.
According to North Carolina State Highway Patrol Master Trooper Christopher Casey, on Saturday at about 12:10 p.m., NCSHP personnel responded to and investigated a fatal collision in Lincoln County on US-321 Business at Bynum Road. A 1990 Chevrolet truck traveling east on Bynum Road attempted to turn left on to US-321 Business and turned in front of a southbound 2003 Honda “Odyssey,” as Casey informs in a Sunday statement.
He adds that the driver of the Chevrolet, Deane Campbell Griffin, 88, of Lincolnton, was critically injured and transported by EMS to CaroMont Regional Medical Center in Gastonia, where she succumbed to her injuries. The driver of the Honda, Brianna Shantel McCleave, 26, of Bessemer City, and three passengers in the vehicle, received non-life-threatening injuries.
“The preliminary investigation indicates impairment and speed were not contributing factors in the collision,” Casey states. “During the on-scene investigation, the roadway was closed in the area for approximately two hours. No charges will be filed in this case.”
