My visit to the Mt Holly DMV 2 years ago (this month) entailed a 2 hour and 45 minute wait time. They were understaffed, as one employee was wearing many hats that day. They ended up calling a third worker in from a different location. But like you, I saw positive elements during my time there. Yes, there was a line already winding down into the parking lot upon my arrival around 10 am. I met a wonderful, nice couple who were there to change over their license’ to NC status since they had recently moved from SC. We hit it off like we had known each other for a long time. Ironically, a year later, I ran into this same lady at my dentist appointment. While awaiting my license renewal, their database shut down…causing me to have to walk outside to get cash from the ATM. I kid you not, as soon as i walked back up to the examiner’s desk, he politely told me their computers were now working. Luckily, I don’t have to return back to a DMV office anytime soon. Unless the rules change, I can renew next time online. I do, however, need to get my Real ID soon. I’ve tried making an appointment. Currently, that is not an option. I’ll keep trying though. God bless all of the dedicated workers out there. We’re all in this thing called Life. Just be kind.
Thanks so much Lisa for sharing your experience. Be well. Eric
I can relate so well, as Belmont NC, where I have lived for 30 years, has turned into Charlotte the sequel. I dread even driving 2 miles down the road to my favorite local grocer on any day of the week. Even now with the school summer break, traffic is still a nightmare. Vinyl villages, condos, apartments, and townhomes have swallowed us up over the last 8 years. As well as commercial structures…many built along now what was already a congested 2 lane road outside of the city limits. Including a brand new middle school. I’m now surrounded by commercial property..given I live in the city limits, where a wooded area once stood behind my home, I can now look out my kitchen window and see a medical park. Borders, language, and culture…all have changed drastically across these United States. I have no doubt there are others like myself and you who can give a synopsis of how their communities are doing a 360. It is my hope and desire that over the next 5 years, my husband and I can sell and move. To where, we don’t know just yet. But it’s going to be out of this area, possibly to a different State. For now, I’ll just sit back and keep watching trees be torn down and rapid growth continue to destroy what was once a charming bedroom community west of Charlotte.
