Six Injured, Including Four Young Children, in Serious US 321 Crash
LINCOLN COUNTY, N.C. — Six people from Lincolnton, including four young children, were seriously injured Thursday morning, October 15, in a single-vehicle crash on US 321 in Lincoln County.
According to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, the crash occurred around 11:33 a.m. near mile marker 29.
Troopers said a Nissan Armada was traveling north on US 321 when it ran off the left side of the roadway. The driver overcorrected, causing the vehicle to cross back onto the highway, run off the right side and overturn.
The driver, Gregory Null, 29, of Lincolnton, was transported to an area hospital with serious injuries. A front-seat passenger, Madison Null, 28, also of Lincolnton, was airlifted to a Charlotte-area hospital with serious injuries.
Four children, ranging in age from 1 to 4 years old, were also seriously injured. According to investigators, none of the children was properly restrained, and one child was ejected from the vehicle. All four were transported by EMS to an area hospital.
The Highway Patrol said charges are expected as the investigation continues.
Troopers Urge Parents to Check Child Safety Seats
Following the crash, Master Trooper K. Jake Macchia emphasized the importance of properly installed child restraint systems.
“We urge all parents that are on the roadways with children to use resources that are available to check and make sure their child restraint systems have been installed correctly,” Macchia said.
He encouraged parents and caregivers to visit BuckleUpNC.org to find permanent child safety seat inspection stations and Safe Kids Coalition events that offer regular safety checks.
“These locations are a great resource to take one extra step to make sure all children are safe in vehicles,” Macchia added.
