Jimmy E. Aikens
September 4, 1945 – October 18, 2024
CONOVER, N.C. - Jimmy E. Aikens, originally of Duplin County, departed for eternal rest, passing peacefully in Conover on Friday, October 18, 2024.
He was born September 4, 1945.
He was preceded in death by his devoted wife, Joanne S. Parker; his mother, Wilma Aikens, brother, Jackie Aikens; and stepson, George Harriss Jr.
Jimmy was a diehard racing fan and sports car connoisseur. He devoted the majority of his time providing steadfast support to his family and friends; always willing to lend a helping hand, a warm hug, or share endless laughs. Jimmy spent his early years on the open road as a cross-country truck driver running regular routes throughout the United States and Canada. When he was ready to retire from the hammer lane, Jimmy relocated to Wilmington to hone his skills becoming a master carpenter. He retired as a General Contractor, having specialized in building custom luxury homes and completing countless home renovations making dreams become a reality for many.
Jimmy is survived by his son Jody Aikens and wife Carmen; grandchildren, Sofia Aikens, Olivia Aikens, and Henry Aikens; stepdaughters, Rebecca “Becky” Haddock and husband Gary, and Elizabeth “Libby” Harriss; step-grandchildren, Aaron Haddock and wife Jennifer, Rachael Haddock Theisen and husband Andrew, Benjamin Haddock, Sarah Kolman and husband Justin, George Harriss III, Alexis Lunsford and husband Marshal, Newman Buck IV and wife Audrey; 10 great-grandchildren; brother Ronnie Aikens and wife Becky; as well as a host of other relatives and special, longtime friends.
A service to celebrate Jimmy’s life was held on Thursday, October 24, 2024 at 1:30 p.m. in the Chapel of Oleander Memorial Gardens in Wilmington. Rev. Dr. Gary Haddock officiated. Entombment followed in the mausoleum. The family received friends on Wednesday, October 23, 2024 from 2-4 p.m. at Bennett Funeral Service, 7878 NC Hwy 16, Newton.
